The public of Lautoka City today witnessed the ground breaking ceremony of the new Namoli Green Night Food Market project.
The ground breaking ceremony was officiated by the Minister for Local Government, Education, Heritage and Arts, Hon. Premila Kumar.
Hon. Premila Kumar said, “the night food market provides an avenue for people who want to start a business, and at a reasonable cost. We need more women in business. Because when we economically empower women – we empower families and our communities”.
Lautoka City Council’s intention of the Namoli Green Night Food Market Project is to make this a place, where travellers to and from Lautoka City can buy food, during overnight travel. This facility will also be used during the day for similar services as well.
She said, “the Ministry of Local Government aspires to empower Councils to be financially sustainable. We want them to generate profits that can be invested in infrastructure such as this to better the place of business. This way, we can provide more services, services that truly make our towns and cities better”.
The Food Market will allow the public to enjoy local cuisine and our aim is to create a platform to help incubate fresh new ideas by building opportunities for local business and bring the community together.
This will be the first ever market that will be for leisurely strolling, shopping, and eating.
The Fijian Government and Lautoka City Council remains committed to modernising the facilities by considering the needs of the communities. And not just the needs of today, but in the future.
