Team Legal

Lautoka city council has an in-house Legal Team that provides Professional Legal Services for the council as stipulated under the Local Government Act Cap. 125 of Fiji in a timely, effective and satisfying manner. The legal team is responsible for providing all legislative services that bind the council and all respective departments of the council.

The legal team is responsible for the following services to the council;

• Handling civil and criminal litigation to and for the council.
• Representing council in instituting legal matters on Regulatory Breach such as;
  • City Rates Defaulters for recoveries
  • Litter and Tobacco enforcement
  • Operations of Food Establishment Businesses without Health License
  • Public Health and Environment nuisance
  • Open fire
  • Mosquito breeding
  • Overgrown Grass on lots
  • Animal and Poultry Nuisance
  • Illegal Developments
  • Using Residential lots in a non-confirming manner
  • Traffic Matters
• Representing council in all legal matters adjudicated by courts.
• Representing council in Mediation and ERT courts on HR and ER issues.
• Maintaining the law and order in the enforcement where it breached
• Writing legal Documents and Contracts.
• Providing legal advice to the council on legal matters.
• Legislation updates and Policy reviews for the management.
