Lautoka City Council Collaborates with FICAC for National Anti-Bribery Campaign.

The Lautoka City Council (LCC) collaborates with Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) for National Anti-Bribery Campaign. The Council and FICAC aim to roll out this campaign with LCC staff and its stakeholders as a national effort to minimise bribery within the public sector.

This campaign was initially launched by His Excellency the Former President of the Republic of Fiji on 9 December 2020 in coordination with the UN Fiji Office (specifically UNDP and UNODC).

The ultimate plan is to have the entire public sector to actively participate in this program as a means to minimise corruption and strengthen the sector’s capabilities to improve service delivery, and conclusively leverage its performance and productivity.

The program required the management representatives to engage in this program first, before they lay the pathway for their respective departments to undertake the same. 

The program concluded with the presentation from FICAC, followed by the badging ceremony where each attendee was badged with the ‘I Don’t Accept Bribes’ emblem as a symbol of their support to this national initiative.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) for LCC, Mr. Mohammad Anees Khan explained the importance of the campaign and also highlighted the role of key stakeholders and individuals in preventing and countering corruption in line with this year’s theme for International Anti-Corruption Day, “Your right, your role: say no to corruption”.

“Corruption is a complex social, political and economic phenomenon that affects all countries. Corruption undermines democratic institutions and slows economic development” he said.

The 2021 International Anti-Corruption Day falls on Thursday 9^th December.

STATEMENT BY CEO – LAUTOKA CITY COUNCIL

Lautoka City Council is really pleased to partner with FICAC to have our staff and management undergo this very important training. Our Council is committed to root out corruptions of all levels of operation and we are already revising our Standard Operating Procedures to make sure that there are no avenues for corruption and we maintain or uphold the integrity, transparency and accountability requirements of the operations of the Council. It is very timely that we have this Anti-Bribery training conducted and to make this commitment with FICAC and push our Council’s commitment to maintain and uphold rule of Law.

The Council had one training last year on October 15, 2020 on Anti-Corruption Awareness.

The Council continues to be committed to the fight against corruption and bribery and was looking forward to the awareness training scheduled for today – Thursday, 25^th November, 2021.
