The Embassy of Japan official, Ms. Emali Soderberg, GGP Coordinator from the Suva office visited Lautoka City Council (LCC) today under their M&E program to monitor and check on how the 5-tonne Garbage Compactor Truck which was donated to LCC is being used.
In 2019, the handover ceremony for “The Project for Provision of Garbage Truck to Lautoka City” under the Grant Assistance for Grass-Roots Human Security Projects (GGP) was done by H.E. Mr. Masahiro Omura, Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Fiji.
Ms. Emali Soderberg was delighted to see how the truck is well maintained and utilized by LCC to serve the public and their ratepayers.
The Manager Health Services, Mr. Rouhit Karan Singh reiterated that one of the city’s major services to the people of Lautoka is waste collection and management which takes up a considerable amount of time and resources to ensure the cleanliness of the city and its residents.
The addition of the new 5-tonne garbage compactor truck has improved waste management operations of the Council by providing an efficient, hazard free and timely waste collection service as it reduces the number of waste disposal trips to the Vunato Disposal site while offering a more conducive working environment for garbage collectors.
