Lautoka City Council’s health department successfully conducted training on Good Hygienic Practices (GHP) for food handlers of Hot Bread Kitchen from the Western Division. The training was held in Sugar City Mall on June 7, 2023.
Councils Senior Health Inspector, Shalend Singh conducted the training and the objectives of the training were as follows:
- Provide food handlers with the basic skills and knowledge of food safety and hygiene matters relevant to their work.
- Raise the level of compliance with food legislation.
- Prevention of food borne illness.
- Awareness on safe procedures for receiving, storing, preparing and serving food.
- Reduce common errors in handling potentially hazardous foods
The training topics included a brief introduction to Food Safety, Food-borne illness (FBI), GHP, Food Safety Act and Food Safety Regulation 2009 requirements, Personnel hygiene, Food Safety Risk Factors and Causes of FBI, Prevention of FBI, Practical exercise and Legal Aspects.
Council wishes to thank the management of Hot Bread Kitchen for the partnership and for providing an opportunity for LCC to create awareness on GHP for Food Handlers especially as World Food Safety Day is celebrated on June 7, 2023.
